ED TEMPLETON AND FRIENDS

I went to the International Center of Photography yesterday to peep the Perspectives 2010 show, namely because of Ed Templeton's work. There were two walls covered with his photographs, lots of familiar faces and photos - definitely worth checking out. The other artists had great stuff up as well. I was especially feeling Matthew Porter's extremely hi-resolution photographs and Hong-An Truong's piece regarding collective memory.

The exhibit downstairs, For All the World to See, was INCREDIBLE. There are a lot of great photos from the civil movement through the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s to be seen.

Both exhibits are open until September 12th. Like Tribe said, checka checka check it out.

Featured Artists:
Math-You Namie – www.mathyounamie.com
Layering the simple, thick lines of classic comic book illustrations over boldly-patterned fabrics, Math-You Namie creates delightfully pop portraiture.

Lindsay Bourget – www.lindsaybourget.com
Evoking fragmented and dreamlike imagery, print-maker Lindsay Bourget incorporates woodland animals, typographic symbols, ornate borders and tango sheet-music in her mixed-media works.

Lauren Bahr – www.laurenbahr.com
Combining elemental shapes with a warm palette of flesh and jewel tones, Lauren Behr’s kaleidoscopic “triangulations” celebrate the crystalline geometry of shattered forms.

...along with a 360° immersive video installation from-
The Glass Bead Collective – www.glassbeadcollective.org
Armed with high-power projectors, the A/V agitators of the Glass Bead Collective tackle contemporary issues by altering physical spaces. Their multidisciplinary works include “guerrilla art projections” at Ground Zero, several documentary films and numerous site-specific video/sound installations. For Gros Fête, they will explore “simplified realities” by transforming the Gallery Bar into a 360° immersive art installation.

We will also have a 0% commission merchandise table featuring wares from local artists, and expect prizes and giveaways throughout the night!

SKEWVILLE

"Funny 'cause while I was putting this up a hipster kid said "hey, isn't this east williamsburg industrial park?" I said "Either way, you're not in Kansas anymore." -Skewville

OCTOPUS CHANDELIERS

Octopus chandeliers by Adam Wallacavage. If I ever have a house with a proper dining room, I would totally have one of these instead of the regs.

Invocation of My Demon Brother (1969)

PART 1:

PART 2:

You can see eight of Kenneth Anger's videos on view at P.S. 1. The videos are a collage of sorts of campy images revolving around drugs, violence, and occult activity. At the P.S. 1 exhibit, the main room is covered in red vinyl, wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor. The setting makes you feel a part of the videos, making it easy to forget you're in a museum.

I suggest going on a weekday when there won't be a lot of people. I also suggest taking the time to watch every single one. I can't wait to go back for more.

Je suis artiste!

This is what happens when I'm bored at work:

Obviously it's FOOD that I'm obsessed with drawing! Duuhhhhh.

Oh, I also think it's worth mentioning that I tend to make these when I'm chillin' with Aunt Flo.

Performance 1: Tehching Hsieh

Tehching Hsieh's One Year Performance: 1978-1979 is currently on view at MoMA:

He locked himself in this cell in his Hudson Street apartment for one full year. A friend brought him food and took a photo of him on a daily basis. He was not allowed to communicate with anyone while he was there, including his visiting friend.

The photos and cell are on display.

Olafur Eliasson Haters Can Keep Hating.

A lot of people were not very fond of Eliasson's Waterfalls. They were slightly underwhelming, but after his incredible exhibit, Take Your Time, at MoMA last year, a bloodclot I gave NOT.

Olafur Eliasson has created this incredible book called Your House, commissioned by MoMA. I need to find out more on this, and see if/when the museum plans on showing it.
