Performance 1: Tehching Hsieh

Tehching Hsieh's One Year Performance: 1978-1979 is currently on view at MoMA:

He locked himself in this cell in his Hudson Street apartment for one full year. A friend brought him food and took a photo of him on a daily basis. He was not allowed to communicate with anyone while he was there, including his visiting friend.

The photos and cell are on display.

That sounds like it made a big difference in the world. Where did he get the money for rent, utilities, and food?

the first half of your comment is completely irrelevant - it's performance art, who cares about what difference it makes in the world? i find it to be very captivating.

and you can ask the artist where he got his money from, i wouldn't know.
